Hiking out to the Ghost House 👻
Yanchep National Park is young for such a designation, only becoming a national park during the 50s or 60s. While it was vested as a reserve as early as 1905, resort style developments began construction in the 1930s. This was mostly bankrolled by the philanthropist, Sir Charles McNess. This is why you'll find a golf course, a resort, a lodge, an inn and a function room built into a cave - all unique for a national park. During today's hike, we'll traverse the Ghost House Trail (about 12km) but add another 3km on for good measure, in the name of exploration and history. Not only will we visit the Ghost House itself (built for a Mr Shapcott in the 1930s) but also rediscover his chaffuers garage and room, located about 400m away. There's also four World War 2 era bunkers to explore. These originally housed generators for a RAAF radar installation. Two are quite larger than the others, and the two sets can be found on both sides of Indian Ocean Drive.
